Thank you for taking the time to check out bethlehembc.com.

Together, we share a vision to become the kind of church described in the Bible. A church with teaching that is creative, compelling and life-changing. To experience heart-felt worship that touches heaven and changes earth. To experience authentic relationships and compassionate care for those in need. We really want to have the kind of contagious faith that can influence and encourage the Greater Gaston Region. Today, over 1,500 people share our vision and call Bethlehem home.

So, if you’re looking for a safe place to ask questions about God, or if you’re a committed Christ follower, I would like to personally invite you to experience one of our worship services at Bethlehem.

We invite you to join us for a Sunday service to see what Bethlehem is all about. Of course, we understand that visiting any church for the first time can be a little intimidating.

When you enter our worship center, sit wherever you feel comfortable. Be assured that during the service you will not be singled out in any way as a visitor. We want you to relax and enjoy the service without fear of embarrassment.

I believe you will find what a lot of people in our area have found – a warm, welcoming environment that will meet you right where you are. Bethlehem is not a perfect church but Bethlehem is a “Perfect Place for Imperfect People!” We would love to see you this Sunday!

Sr. Pastor

Our Belief
1. About God: God is the Creator and ruler of the universe. He eternally exists in three personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.

Genesis 1:1,26,27 & 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; I Peter 1:2,11; II Cor. 13:14

2. About Jesus Christ: Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Matt. 1:22, 23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5, 14:10-30; Heb. 4:14-15; I Cor. 15:3-4;
Rom. 1:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; I Tim. 6:13-14; Titus 2:13

3. About the Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer a spiritual gift when they are saved. As Christians we seek to live under His control daily.

II Cor. 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14:16-17; Acts 1:8; I Cor. 2:12, 3:16; Eph. 1:13; Gal. 5:25; Eph. 5:18

4. About the Bible: The Bible is God’s Word to us. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is the truth without any mixture of error.

Matt. 5:18; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Hebrews 4:12; 2 Peter 1:19-21

5. About Human Beings: People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God’s creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience.

Gen. 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6a; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1-2

6. About Salvation: Salvation is God’s free gift to us but we must accept it. We can never make up for sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus Christ we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into His life by faith.

Rom. 6:23; Eph. 2:8-9; John 14:6, 1:12; Titus 3:5; Gal. 3:26; Rom. 5:1

7. About Eternal Security: Because God gives us eternal life through Jesus Christ, the true believer is secure in the salvation for eternity. If you have been genuinely saved, you cannot “lose” it. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives us this security.

John 10:29; II Tim. 1:12; Heb. 7:15, 10:10,14; I Peter 1:3-5

8. About Eternity: People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation to have eternal life. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence.

John 3:16; John 2:25; John 5:11-13; Romans 6:23; Rev. 20:15; Matt. 1:8; Matt. 2:44,46

  Membership at Bethlehem
  We believe that membership matters!

The way you join Bethlehem is by attending a “Discovery Membership” class. During the class, taught by Pastor Dickie, we will explore our mission, vision, values, and beliefs at Bethlehem. At the end of the class, you will be given an opportunity to join the Bethlehem Church family by filling out and turning in the Membership Covenant.

What are the criteria to become a member of Bethlehem?

In order to join Bethlehem, you must be a Christ-follower. A Christ-follower is someone who turns from their sin and places their faith in Jesus Christ as their leader and forgiver.

  Our Vision
We want to kelp you connect here at Bethlehem in four ways.

1. Connect with Christ. On a regular basis, we offer opportunities for you to grow in your spiritual journey. We offer “Next Steps with Christ” which is 6 weeks of personal assistance in your spiritual journey of faith. We offer a large variety of classes that will help deepen your relationship with Christ. Our goal is to equip you to spend time with Christ everyday.

2. Connect with Community. We have “Community Groups” that will enable you to connect with other people. God has wired us so that we not only need Him, but need each other. We take every opportunity to provide a variety of environments where people can connect with each other. Our goal is to encourage you to be a part of a group.

3. Connect to Calling. Although there is much you can learn as a Christian, simply knowing stuff is not enough. Jesus expects us to act upon what He has taught us by serving people. We want to help you discover your own unique God-given giftedness and begin using it to serve God and others. Our goal is for every person to serve in a ministry, either in Bethlehem or in our community.

4. Connect to Compassion. One of our greatest privileges in life is to help others connect with God. We encourage every person at Bethlehem to invest in the lives of those they come into contact with and invite them to see how good God really IS! Our goal is for every person to reach someone for Christ!

  Our Dreams
  We dream of a church…

…where grace is accepted and extended; where love for people springs from our love for God; where joy fills the air; where people are one in spirit; where service is considered a privilege and not a burden.

…where people find real help, experience real change and discover real answers; where marriages are healed and parent’s hearts are turned toward the children; where people are set free from destructive lifestyles, habits and addictions; where wasted lives are retrieved and new beginnings are launched.

…where we truly believe in the authority of God’s Word, it is studied with expectation, taught with relevance, heard with anticipation, and obeyed with passion.

…where prayer is the foundation for all we do and every initiative we take.

…where people are free to attempt great things for God; where creativity and innovation are honored not feared; where all kinds of people serve God in all kind of ways with respect, encouragement, and unity.

…where thousands of ordinary men and women are effectively trained and actually entrusted with the work of the ministry; where impact is made on lives across the street and around the world.

…where children and youth are nurtured in their faith; where they are encouraged and challenged in their ability to serve the Lord and stand for Him in their world.

…where worship communicates to our guests the greatness of our God, the joyfulness of the Christian life, and the emptiness of life without Jesus.

…where growth is not only welcomed, but anticipated as the norm; where the heartbeat of every person is for outreach and inclusion of people from all walks of life and all races.

… where Christ is Lord over all we do!

  Baptism
Bethlehem Church believes that baptism is a public sign of identification with the message and mission of Jesus Christ. It is an outward sign of the life change that has already begun in the life of a believer after they have entered into new life with Christ. At Bethlehem, we prefer to baptize through immersion following the model of Christ’s baptism and that of the first century church. Baptism does not aid salvation or wash away sins, but rather is a public proclamation of a believer’s faith in Christ.

Where do I take my children?
Bethlehem has a secure, safe, clean kid friendly environment where parents and children can feel comfortable and at ease. “The Cove” is for our young ones, babies – five year olds, to come to know who God is and learn how much He loves them. The learning process is a fun weekly “hands-on” setting in classrooms full of objects for kids to touch, wild and wiggly activities to get them moving, crafts they will love getting into and real life situations they can relate to. Our Cove Teaching Team is committed to living like Jesus, loving your children and building relationships with them as they develop their ability to know and worship Him.

In the “Depot” on Sunday mornings is an awesome time for kids, kindergarten-fifth grade, to learn lessons of faith and obedience from the greatest book ever written, the Bible. We focus on core virtues that apply to our lives and grow together just like Jesus did (Luke 2:52). We have an exciting format consisting of a large group Worship experience as well as small group interaction time to help introduce children to the best friend they will ever have… Jesus Christ. We strive for church to be one of kids favorite places to go and bring their friends. For more information visit our website www.startownkids.com.
